Ugljan is the closest island in the Zadar archipelago and exactly opposite to Zadar. They are separated by the Zadar canal which is only a few nautical miles wide and they are connected by several ferry lines. Ugljan is also called the green island. It is covered with macchia, pine trees, olive trees, fig trees, vineyards and other Mediterranean vegetation.

The island surface is 51,85 km2 and the coast line is 74 km long. For generations the island is connected to the see, to sailing and fishing. The 2000 year tradition in making olive oil guaranties the production of oil of the finest quality and aroma, from hundred thousand's of olive trees spread across the island.

Hidden in natural bays fisherman and tourist villages are spread along the north-east side of the island. The most famous of them are Kukljica, Kali, Preko and Ugljan. The other side of the island is mostly steep and uninhabited, but its bays, surrounding islands and rich under water world make it a real challenge for divers and sport fishermen.

The inland of the island is hilly but tame, criss-crossed by numerous paths suitable for tracking and mountain biking.

All those who enjoy Mediterranean landscapes can feast their eyes on a few memorable panoramas, especially from the top of the Venetian fort of St. Mihovil (XIII century). People inhabit this island for a long time and the visible reminders of this past are ruins from ancient Rome, an ancient Croatian chapel, monasteries, the unique stone architecture and numerous summerhouses.

Rocky and sandy beaches, crystal clear see, various accommodation possibilities, an authentic gastronomic experience are only some of the reasons why you should visit this island.
